Ernesto damages chicken pens!
Hurricane Ernesto - downgraded to a tropical depression - brought some mighty fine winds to our farm! Two of our 6 pasture pens we use for moving our chickens across the fields were blown over and bent. We lost 12 birds due to crushing and hypothermia (rain and wind). We spent half of the day repairing pens and getting the birds back under cover with food and water. They looked much better later in the day. We hammered in some steel posts at the corners to hold pens down. Should have done that the night before and could have saved ourselves and the birds some trouble!
